July 2-9

It was a bit of a slow fishing week probably due to the up and down weather.  Walleye don’t like those hot, sunny days.  The guests caught fish but not the usual numbers.  I guess that’s why they call it fishing.  There were still some nice catches.IMG_7977 (Medium) IMG_7989 (Medium)

June 23-July 2

Had a great week of fishing this week.  Lots of walleye, smallmouth bass and pike.  One party had a difficult time getting their limit of walleye because they were all over 21″ and regulations allow you only 1 over 18″ but they had a great time throwing all of those big ones back.  We also had 2 guys that spent a lot of time bass fishing and caught 146 in one day.  You can’t beat that.andrew (Medium) IMG_20160625_182442781 (Medium)

June 16-23

The week started off a little slow because of the hurricane force winds that we had for a couple of days but once the weather improved so did the fishing.  This week was the 40th anniversary of one of our fishing groups.  We have seen the great grandfather, grandfathers, fathers and sons over the many years and it has been a pleasure.Moosehorn 2016 023 (Medium)  It is also wonderful to cater to more and more couples parties.bonnie (Medium)

Busy, Busy, Busy

I guess I have slacked off a bit for the last couple of weeks and didn’t update the blog.  It’s been extremely busy here and haven’t had a chance until now.  To say that the weather has been crazy is an understatement.  The week of June 4-11 was freezing and nothing but rain pretty much the whole week but the guys still caught some nice walleye and pike.  Last week we were in the middle of a heat wave with no wind which made walleye fishing very tough.  We even had one party go out and fish at 3:30 in the morning and caught a ton of walleye right up until the start of sunrise and then they shut off.  This week we had some hot weather Saturday that ended with a huge thunder and lighting storm and a ton of rain.  It brought in cooler weather and high winds.  Lost our power for 6 hours on Monday because of trees on the power line and the fishermen were limited in where they could fish Monday and Tuesday because of the high winds.  The weather improved yesterday and so has the fishing.  It looks like the next few days are going to be great fishing weather.DSC_0007 (Medium) DSC_0057 (Medium)

Season 2016

Well the 2016 season started a week ago and we have been very busy.  We finally got our spring bear hunt back but the decision came down way too late and we only managed to book a few hunters but they all saw bear.  Glad to have it back.  We are in full fishing mode right now and it has been pretty slow which is understandable considering that we have had nothing but cold and rain for the last couple of weeks.  It was a balmy 0 this morning but feels much colder because of the strong north winds.  We have some hardy fishermen in camp and this terrible weather isn’t keeping them down.  The forecast is looking much better.  Our summer is jammed packed again with a waiting list and our future plans are to build 2 more cottages on the lakeshore.  This first update is the beginning of my weekly posts.  Hoping for another great fishing year.IMG_7820 (Medium)IMG_7802 (Medium)

Busy time

IMG_7553 (Medium)We have had a pretty hectic few weeks catering to snowmobilers.  This is our first year as our trails have been closed for a few years.  They opened late because it took awhile for the snow to finally get here plus all of the trails had to be brushed and we are talking about a couple of hundred miles.  The trails up here are amazing.  Well groomed and not a lot of traffic.  We have had groups from Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana and Southern Ontario and we have had nothing but positive feedback on the trail system and our accommodations, food and hospitality.  We still have a ton of snow but we are in for a mild spell in the next 2 weeks so it might be an early end to the season.  Hopefully there will be a normal start next year.

Update on Winter

I guess it’s time for an update on what’s been happening since October.  We were pretty busy right into December this year which was great.  Because of the unusually warm fall, we didn’t close the cottages on the hill until well into November which is unheard of up here.  Since then we have had several parties stay with us.  They varied from people just wanting to get away for a day to ice fishermen and now we are into the snowmobilers.  All of the trails should be open this week.  Our first party left yesterday and we are expecting several more over the next 3 weeks.  We are open for business if anyone wants to come and see how beautiful it is here during the winter.IMG_7511 (Medium)

Fall update

Sorry that I haven’t posted anything in awhile but we have been extremely busy.  We still have some diehard fishermen in camp until Halloween but the last month has primarily been grouse hunters and moose hunt.  The bird hunting has been fairly good and I think most guys have gone home with their limit.  Our usual crew of moose hunters had another successful hunt and harvested a bull on the second day.  The weather was a little warm for them but the rest of us enjoyed every minute of it.moose 2015

No signs of slowing down

It’s getting near the end of September but the fishing and our reservations show no signs of slowing down.  The walleye fishing is still amazing and it looks like we are going to be pretty busy until Oct. 30th.  It has been a fantastic year all around and we are getting a lot of calls for next year.  DSCN0823 (Medium)IMG_6886 (Medium)

Sept. 5-12

I’m a little behind on this blog but things have been pretty busy.  Last week we had another beautiful week and still some great fishing.  These Northerns were caught in the home lake.   We had a couple of pretty frosty mornings and I expect that the leaves will start turning quickly.IMG_6851 (Medium)
